5 Beauty Tips I wish I always Knew

Kat Von D Lock-it foundation and beauty blender

No one starts as a make-up pro, certainly not me anyway. If there were 5 tips I wish I knew when I started using make-up, it would be these.

Use a damp beauty blender
I don't know how I ever applied makeup with a dry sponge. What a difference it makes using a damp blender to work the foundation, regardless of how annoying it is when you sit down and think "crap I forgot to soak my sponge!"... that sounds worse than it should. This is my number one beauty tip that I will never forget. Blending has never been so easy.

Brush out curls with your fingers
I can't count how many times I've spent what feels like forever curling my hair and then ruining it with a comb or brush. I have seen multiple videos over the years of people being able to brush their curls into the most beautiful style... me however, I look like I've just shoved my hand into a plug socket with the additional back comb for volume. Fingers, not brush!

Clean your makeup brushes often
Let's be honest no one really cleaned their brushes during their teenage years. That's pretty gross now you think about it. It's advised that you deep clean your brushes at least once a week and although I don't really stick to that, I do wash them a heck of a lot more than I use to. The thing is, the process takes me hours and I'm not even kidding. But If you don't wash your brushes, you will be taking a risk of putting bacteria onto your skin and if you are prone to breakouts, this certainly won't help.

Nail polish remover and tinfoil are your friends
I say this, but I'm not sure many professionals would advise the same. Awhile ago, someone told me to put a few drops of nail polish remover onto a cotton pad, place onto your nail and wrap with tinfoil. Leave the foil on for 5-10 minutes, give a small squeeze and wiggle at the tips before removing and voila.. nail polish has disappeared. This is a godsend when it comes to glitter polish especially! Just make sure to condition your nails and hands after.

Get foundation matched before buying
Don't be scared to ever ask for a shade match before buying a foundation when possible. We have all seen and probably been guilty of being a little orange at times. I'll never forget trying out a new foundation for the first time for a friends wedding. I stupidly asked Jase (my fiancé.. should probably start to give him a name on here) if it looked ok as the lighting at home wasn't great. He said I looked fine (typical male reply) so off we went only for me to look in the passenger mirror and be met by a tangerine! I scrubbed with a dry tissue as best I could, needless to say I was mortified by the time we got to the ceremony. Always get a shade match! If you are buying online or are looking at high-street brands, try looking online for foundation matches. I often use Temptalia.

What are your tips?

  1. Great idea!! I blow dry my eye lash curler for a few seconds to heat it up. I get such a better curl when i do this!
Bigger lashes every time! Ive heard of the tin foil and varnish remover.... I so lazy though I never bother... I've found these pads now, kinda like the eye makeup remover circle ones you can get.... There a god send!
