As much as many of us are excited for Autumn, the changing of the month can come with a whole new bunch of stresses that we just don't want to think about. Wouldn't we all love to just roll with it and take each day as it comes? Well, to keep up the positivity (even on a Monday) here's 4 tips to help combat stress.
Sleep
I feel like sleep in a lot of ways is taken for granted. Sure we all talk about wanting to be lounging in bed instead of working but how many people really get a good nights sleep? It's advised that we get a good 7-9 hours sleep a night and I'm pretty sure the majority of us don't push ourselves to achieve this amount. The more you sleep, the more energy and calmer outlook you will have the following day. A much better attitude for tackling things head on. It's a win, win situation and let's face it.. beds are cosy places to be in the colder months. I'm not saying have a bed-time but maybe you don't really need to watch one more episode on Netflix when you have an early start the next day.
Garden Time
Something I have found really helpful lately is sitting in the garden for 5 minutes as soon as I get in from work. I just sit on the grass and take a breather. I try not to think too much, just listen to the birds and look at the sky (too hippie?). Honestly though, it really helps me relax and "recover" from a days work and it creates a separation from work to home-life which I am so pleased with and was in much need of.
Eat Well
I fully admit that this is not my strongest point, but I'm working on it. I've realised over the last couple of months that although I may be dying for a plate of chicken nuggets or a pizza, after I've eaten I just feel run-down and "groggy". I'm not getting any nutrition or benefits from crappy foods (which I know is a given) and I desperately want to start looking after myself a lot more and explore more healthier and tastier options. When your body and mind feels healthier, stress is reduced.
Appreciate The Little Things
I spent most of this year feeling stressed, anxious and overall just really crap. Thankfully I have been slowly but surely coming out of that place and have been focusing my energy and time on what makes me happy and what I really appreciate in my life. Things like family and relationships to blogging and Disney YouTube videos. Always keep in the back of your mind the things you enjoy and the goals you want to achieve, it's far more beneficial than focusing on the negatives.
Food is an important one. Like the old saying goes, you are what you eat. I would like to work on eating more healthier, but I think it comes down not being too hard on myself if I go for that sneaky treat because it doesn't mean I have to let it all go downhill. I can decide afterwards to still work on the next day having something healthier :)
